Did you know that Victor Hugo came in Chamonix valley when he was 23 with is wife and his babygirl Léopoldine ? It was in August 1825 . There is no picture of course but there is one showing another inconic French man in valley, Gustave Eiffel. The famous ingeneer who finished the famous tower two years before, came in Chamonix in 1891 on the request of the french astronom Jules Janssen to study if it was possible to build an observatory at the mont Blanc summit. Eiffel said no !
But Janssen refused to admit it and ...asked another ingeneer to built it. Result : a catastroph ! The" the highest observatory in the world disapeared in the ice few years later.
